Vacation

There are two things I have to say about vacations.
#1: I love them because nothing is ever awkward when you're on vacation in another city/country. It's awesome! I walk down the street and it's just great because no one knows who I am or anything about me. No one has anything to judge me based on (except my looks I guess) and I feel like a different person. I can't really explain it. It's just fun because I am a tourist and I feel like that somehow changes peoples expectations of me. It changes my expectations of myself. I feel like it doesn't matter what I say or do (to a point), and since I'm a tourist I'm allowed to be a little lost and confused, because let's face it, who isn't when they're in a different country? All "awkward" feelings in what would normally be very awkward situations just seem to dissipate. I don't really even know why.

#2: Vacations are interesting in the way that they make me really proud of where I come from. When I visit the states I always want to just yell it out to the world "I AM CANADIAN!!!" even though no one would really care. I am happy that I'm not american, despite the fact that americans are generally really nice, considerate people. It probably has a little something to do with the gun laws, or lack thereof. I hate that people can walk around carrying a gun and it is perfectly legal. When we were walking around downtown late at night I was a little convinced that someone was going to pull out a gun and shoot me. I know it isn't likely, but it's possible. More possible than it is in Canada. In a nutshell, I love Canada, I am proud of where I am from, and I do not think that anywhere else would ever really feel like home.
