san diego day one

Just going to kill two birds with one stone with this. Want to keep a journal of my trip but figured I might as well blog so my friends are updated too.

So day one consisted of a lot of sitting and sleeping and just general travelling laziness. The night before I was up until 4 a.m packing and getting ready. For some reason unknown to all I automatically woke up at 7 a.m and was just pumped for the day. I went into the living room and my mum is sitting there sewing something and says "I stayed up all night" looking completely wired and a little bit crazy. We got ready and my dad drove us down to bellingham airport where we were flying out of. Tiny little airport and the security guards were cracking jokes and just generally enjoying themselves. About a half hour flight to seattle (spent more time taxiing in the runway than flying!), then had two and a half hours to kill in the airport. We went and got some tortilla soup which was yum and a massive frozen yogurt. Second flight was 2 hours and 24 minutes to be exact. I drank some ginger ale while the lady beside us downed her vodka and orange juice like no tomorrow. I think flying freaked her out. There was the cutest little girl in the seat in front of us and she kept looking back at us through the space between the seats and smiling. She was so adorable! I read my book and slept and looked out the window. I was feeling fidgety and impatient to get there. When we arrive I went into spaz airport mode like I always do and felt the urge to sprint to the baggage pickup but resisted it. Had a few issues at the ATM and had to pee like seabiscuit so took care of those issues, got our luggage, and phoned the hotel to bring our courtesy shuttle. Waited about 15 minutes outside, and it was quite a bit chillier than we expected. It was about 7 p.m by this time. The air was so humid though. The driver picked us up and he was super nice, kept telling us things he wasn't technically supposed to, like recommending the best restaurants (which didn't include the hotel's restaurant, hmm) and soon enough we were at the hotel. Checked in, then walked a short distance to the family restaurant nearby. It was this old 50s style diner, super cute inside (well some might say otherwise). I ordered the chicken parmesan and my mum got fish tacos. It was absolutely amazing. Seriously, never tasted food so good. The chef was this old spanish guy and I am baffled as to how he isn't a famous chef. The vegetables were so buttery, the chicken was cooked to perfection, the cheese was just delish. Cleaned my plate then polished off half of my mum's. Our waiter was nice, but when we went to pay we totally witnessed a sketchy ryan and trey chino boys incident. This guy came in with a brown paper bag, said something to our waiter, then said "ok, I'm gonna bounce". He went and put the paper bag in the back and they did a little handshake thing. I'm assuming it was alcohol since the liquor store was right next door. Who knows. Odd. We went to the store next door after and got some snacks and orange juice and yogurt for morning. Then we walked back to the hotel and my mum was like deliriously tired at this point and was just cracking me up. Went onto netflix and the selection is 10 times better since we're in the US. Watched this movie with Brittany Murphy that was actually so awesome, I loved the script and it is definitely in the top 10 fav movies! I want to own it. My mum slept through the whole thing, occasionally waking up and saying "looks funny" then promptly falling back asleep. Eventually I went to sleep too. The end (or is it the beginning? muahaha)
